What ages are appropriate for traveling on a Go Ahead Family Vacation?
We’ve designed our tours to appeal to a range of ages: kids, teenagers and of course parents and grandparents too! Families with children ages three and up are welcome on all of our Family Vacation itineraries. Some exceptions for smaller children may be made on a case-by-case basis.

Are there any age, height or weight restrictions on certain activities?
Yes. Some activities, such as Ziplining in Costa Rica, do have age, height, and weight minimums. Please see the tour description or contact one of our Tour Consultants for more information.

What are your Tour Directors like?
While we plan our itineraries, hotels, and meals with great care, our greatest and most important assets are our Tour Directors. They’re more than guides; they’re friends who are passionate about making your family’s travel experience as enriching, exciting and remarkable as it can be.

In addition to our expert Tour Directors, most of our Family Vacations will also be staffed with a Junior Tour Director. We know travel can take unexpected twists and turns, especially when traveling with kids! We want to provide every family with the most personalized attention so that your kids are intrigued, excited and eager to learn every step of the way. Our Junior Tour Directors are there to make sure the level of personal attention you and your family receive is second to none! Although our Kenya Safari does not offer a Junior Tour Director, each 7-person safari vehicle is driven by our expert guides who will provide you and your family with an in-depth understanding of the region and help your family spot as many animals as possible during your game drives.

Do you offer special rates for kids?
Yes! Any discounted child rates that we are able to get from airlines, hotels, and entrances to various sites are passed along to you. This means that our Family Vacations offer special rates for kids under age 12, which will vary by tour. We also offer added discounts for triple and quad accommodations. Please ask your Tour Consultant for more information.

In some cases, we are able to offer discounts on our optional excursions for children under age 12. These discounts vary and are not available on all excursions. Details can be viewed on each itinerary’s detailed information.

What are the hotels like?
We carefully select our hotels to ensure the best possible experience for your family and of course for your travel dollar. Each hotel is chosen based on location, comfort, cleanliness and local flavor. In all of our accommodations, you can count on a private bath or shower. Rest assured that all hotel taxes and tips for restaurant service and baggage handling are included in the price of your tour.

Do you offer triple and quad rooms? What about adjoining rooms?
We do offer both triple and/or quad rooms on all of our Family Vacations, which will usually consist of two double beds. Please ask your tour consultant about availability, as it can vary and certain room types may be limited on some departures. We do offer added discounts for triple and quad accommodations.

In some cases, adjoining rooms may be available on a request basis, but cannot be guaranteed. Please note that children under the age of 12 must share accommodations with some 18 or older at least one adult. Adjoining rooms are considered separate accommodations.

What are the meals like? Will there be options for my kids?
All meals will offer choices appropriate for both adults and kids. Please let us know of any allergies or dietary requirements before your departure.

Dinners will include soft drinks for all ages and a choice of beer or wine for adults.

What documents do I need to travel? Is there anything in particular I need for my kids to travel?
Please see the Travel documentation, vaccinations and packing section for information regarding visas and passports.

If a child will be traveling with adults other than his or her parents or with only one parent, the parents or non-traveling parent must write a notarized letter granting authorization to travel, including the dates of travel. Please contact the appropriate consulate and airlines as they may have additional requirements or recommendations.

What should I pack for me and for my kids?
Packing right is one of the best ways to ensure that your vacation is fun and worry-free for you and your kids.

For the plane, we recommend letting your kids pack their own carry-ons, complete with games, toys and books to keep them occupied. We also recommend bringing snacks aboard the plane, as many airlines carry limited options for kid-friendly meals and snacks.

While you’re traveling, some of the most important items will be rain gear and comfortable, sturdy shoes to keep you and your kids happy and dry. Clothes that can be layered will help you be prepared for varied weather conditions. We also encourage you to pack bright colors so that your family can find one another easily in a crowd.
